AFS operates through a network of committees, each dedicated to a specific area of community life. Committees are the engine of our programs and initiatives. Committees help translate the association’s vision into practical actions that benefit members and the wider community. They ensure that the day-to-day activities of AFS are well-coordinated, inclusive, and impactful. Some of the most active and common committees include Culture, Welfare, Events, Media, and Education. Each committee is created based on the needs and priorities of the association at any given time.
For example, the Culture Committee focuses on preserving and promoting our rich Anambra and Igbo traditions through festivals, exhibitions, and language activities. The Welfare Committee ensures that members are supported during times of celebration or distress, fostering compassion and solidarity within the community. The Youth Committee engages younger members through mentorship, leadership training, and networking programs that prepare them to take up future responsibilities.
The Finance and Audit Committees work hand in hand to ensure proper management of funds and transparent reporting. Likewise, the Sports and Events Committees organize recreational and social activities that bring members together in unity and friendship. Each committee has a lead (Chairperson/Head) and a small team of volunteers who plan programs, organize logistics, report progress, and manage budgets approved by the general membership. This structure encourages active participation and shared responsibility. It ensures that every member of AFS has an opportunity to contribute their skills, ideas, and energy to the growth of the association.
